મિલનનાં દીપક સૌ બુઝાઈ ગયાં છે,
વિરહનાં તિમિર પણ દહન થઈ ગયાં છે;
અભાગી નયન વાટ કોની જુએ છે,
હતાં સત્ય જે એ સ્વપન થઈ ગયાં છે.
અમારાં સ્વપનનું એ સદભાગ્ય ક્યાંથી?
સ્વપનમાં રહેલા સુખો થાય સાચા;
કે આ વાસ્તવીક જગનાં સાચાં સુખો પણ,
અમારા નસીબે સ્વપન થઈ ગયાં છે.
ઘણાએ દુ:ખો એ રીતે પણ મળ્યા છે,
કે જેને કદી જોઈ પણ ના શક્યો હું;
ઘણી એ વખત નીંદમાં સુઈ રહ્યો છું,
અને બંધ આંખે રૂદન થઈ ગયાં છે.
નથી મેળવાતી ખુશી સંપત્તીથી,
આ મોજાં રડીને કહે છે જગતને;
ભીતરમાં જ મોતી ભર્યાં છે છતાંયે,
સમુદ્રોનાં ખારા જીવન થઈ ગયાં છે.
પ્રણયમાં મેં પકડ્યા તમારા જે પાલવ,
પ્રણયની પછી પણ મને કામ આવ્યા;
પ્રસંગો ઉપરનાં એ પડદાં બન્યા છે,
ઉમંગો ઉપરનાં એ કફન થઈ ગયાં છે.
કવિ દિલ વીના પ્રકૃતિનાં સીતમને
બીજું કોણ ‘બેફામ’ સુંદર બનાવે?
મળ્યા દર્દ અમને જે એનાં તરફથી,
અમરા તરફથી કવન થઈ ગયાં છે.

Thanks for giving this old favourite from Barkat Virani Saheb. There are a few typing mistakes in the presentation (Mukesh instead of Rafi is the most glaring one) but all are pardonable for this gift of a nostalgic journey down the lanes of my youth. This was a gem of a Ghazal in those days when good things were available in measured quantities. Barkatsaheb’s popularity as a lyricist got the rare (in Gujarati) voice of Rafisaheb tuned to a melodious melancholy tune by Dilipbhai.
WHAT A WONDERFUL GAZAL BY ” BEFAAM “. THE FIRST ONE ( COMPOSED BY DILIPBHAI DHOLAKIA ) IS SUNG BY RAFI AND NOT MUKESH. THANKS.
